Blogger's Quilt Festival- Spring 2013

** Update: The Pattern for this quilt is called Outburst and is now available in my Craftsy and  Etsy Shops!***

Welcome to everyone visiting from the Blogger's Quilt Festival. My name is Kyndra and I'm so glad you stopped by!

This spring, I'm entering this quilt into the wall hanging category. This quilt is still unnamed- I'd happily take suggestions. It is similar to my Inburst quilt except for this one doesn't "burst" inward.

I made this quilt as part of my pattern writing process for Inburst. I absolutely love the way it turned out and I have the perfect spot in my foyer to hang it!

I used 11 different colors of Kona cotton for the front. It's really no secret how much I love working with Kona solids. For the back I used one of the prints from Kate Spain's Cuzco collection. I thought the bright colors in the print fit this quilt quite well.

I quilted it on my Janome Horizon 7700. I chose to stitch in the ditch around each "star" and then quilt parallel lines within each star. The overlap of the parallel lines really emphasizes the transparency feel of the quilt. I quilted the outside of the star with echoing lines 1 inch apart.

The finished quilt measures 42" x 42". I used a bamboo/cotton blend batting. It was my first time using bamboo, and if you haven't used it before, I highly recommend it. It is oh so soft! It is my new favorite!

Thanks so much for stopping by! I would love to have your vote! (Vote Here!)

  3. This is spectacular! The color placement is so effective, when I saw the thumbnail I immediately clicked over to see more. It makes me think of a snowflake for some reason, but the colors just sizzle!

    1. Thank you! I have had a pattern for this quilt planned for quite some time. I've been trying off and on to simplify it and achieve the same look. I used 11 different colors for it and buying that many different cuts of fabric make it kind of impractical and expensive to buy fabric for. It is definitely on my to-do list for next year and I have some other transparent quilts planned as well!
